Can Massage Help My Arthritis?

Last week, a client told me that they have arthritis in their wrists, so I should probably avoid that area. This is a comment I hear often. Many of my clients that are experiencing pain from arthritic joints assume that massage would just cause them more pain. This is a misconception. According to the Arthritis Foundation "Benefits of Massage", studies have shown massage has significantly improved pain and inflammation caused by arthritis, as well as, improved joint mobility.

This has been seen in my own experience as well. I always explain the benefits of massage to my clients with arthritis and ask them if they would like to have me work on the issue. Almost every client has said agreed, and they really appreciate how it feels after the massage. Many of them have suffered from arthritis for years and have tried many options to relieve the pain. Massage is a natural way to improve this condition without side effects caused by many other treatments.
